94 GT harmonic balancer question
I tried timing my recently acquired GT ragtop, and the marks on the balancer ring are in the wrong place. or I have an incredible engine, firing at something like 100 degrees advance. Yes, I took out the spout. The balancer does not wobble, and the engine seems to run smoothly. I have read that the outer ring on the 94-95 is prone to slip. Does that also mean that the weights also slip, causing the engine/balancer to be out of balance and could lead to big problems? Or is it just the outer ring that has slid, and the balancer is still in the proper position for balancing, and the only problem I will have is trying to time the ignition? If I need to replace the balancer, that is OK, but I don't like changing parts that really are not broken. thanks

Yes the outer ring is known to slip on the 5.0 balancers.
Yes it throws it off balance as well and it may damage the front main seal or even the front crank bearing. Not to mention if it was able to slip then it has a chance of coming completely apart at high rpm , and that is very bad.
