Default Rear Control Arms

Hello,

New to the forums, just purchased a 93 GT with 78k on it and currently restoring the suspension. My question is regarding the stock rear upper control arm and replacing the rubber bushings with new rubber bushings. I can't seem to find out what or where to get them. So far I have found the following but not sure if I need both or if they are the same thing different manufacturer.

Thanks in advanced for any help on this!!!

THOSE ARE THE BUSHINGS THAT PRESS INTO the rear end housing for the upper control arms..........just buy a set of replacement upper and lower control arms if all you're looking for are to replace oem ....it'll be far easier than trying to put new bushings in the current control arms and savings vs hassle will be minimal......tons of options for replacements

Energy Suspension makes polyurethane bushings that will work with your stock control arms. I made a video on how to install them on my wifey’s ’98 mustang and put it on my YouTube channel. Yeah, it does take a little bit of effort to get the old rubber bushings out, but well worth it in my opinion. I replaced all the front & rear rubber components/bushings with poly and the car handles like new. yeah, you could replace the control arms with aftermarkets that have poly bushings, but you will still have rubber bushings on the differential mount for the upper control arms.

According to Maximum Motorsports, leave the rear upper control arms stock or at least just swap the bushings with rubber bushings. It's the rear lower control arms that need swapping. They say you will actually make the rear suspension worse by using a polyurethane bushing on the uppers. I've heard other fox guys say this too. I swapped my stock upper bushings out with rubber ones and just bought their "extreme duty" rear lowers and I love them. Tires spin a little easier, but it launches straight no matter how hard I hit the gas.

Maximum Motorsports also makes a tool to remove the stock upper bushings which is also sold at latemodelrestoration.com

The rear control arms are the same between ’73 & ’04 which includes fox bodies & SN95’s. So I don’t know why Fox Bodies would be different then SN95’s with regard to poly bushings. The only problems I have heard of from people installing poly bushings are from those that installed them incorrectly by tightening them down while the rear end was still in the air. That will bind up the bushings regardless of if they are rubber or poly. Other then that, no problems. I replaced the bushings on my wifey’s ride a few years ago with poly bushings and haven’t had any problems. The car handles like new.

Arms are the same between 87-98. The 99-04 have 14mm bolts instead of 12mm on one end, I think axle end.

Uppers are the same 79-04. It's the lowers which are 12mm from 79-98 and then 14mm from 99-04.

This is the way to go right here:
