Question about trim
Hi! New to the board and honestly I am here because I have no clue about Mustangs (I just ride in them ). My husband owns a few but I was wondering if anyone can answer a question for me about trim? I want to make sure I am buying the right thing but it is a surprise so I can't ask him.
He has a 1987 mustang gt (hatchback) and he is interested in converting it to a lx. I am wondering if these parts are the replacement trim for where the ground effects would be? If not where do they go?
Sorry if I sound like I have no clue but I really don't lol. I would appreciate your help. Thanks again!!!

Those look like the side moldings that are half way up the car. They won't replace the GT moldings that run on the bottom of the car. Just pull the GT moldings off and remove clips, then you have an LX.
Welcome to the forum, and tell your husband he's a lucky guy.

Yes those are LX body side moldings, but like said the lower side skirts and the fender extensions are different. However once you remove the side skits along the rear of the front fender and along the rocker panel there are pieces of metal pop riveted to the body that hold the skirts on. To properly remove those pieces would require drilling the rivets and then welding the holes left and body work and paint them. You could leave them if you want but they look out of place without being covered. The rest of the trim is just screwed or bolted on.
The front and rear bumpers are also different. Not only are they designed to line up with the GT fender extensions they also have a larger character line on the molding. Where the GT ones have a line about 1/2 as wide of the molding the LX only has about a 1/4 of the line. The bumpers also have this matching line to them.
