While your waiting for parts, read up on TV cable adjustment / setup . You need to have it properly set otherwise it will take out your tranny.

Good thing you noticed something wasn't right, saved yourself a big headache.

Yikes, well that's a bit ominous! Well what I've seen on YouTube so far is to pretty much make sure the cable is under neutral tension and then lock it and clip it. Is that about the gist?

If I remember correctly, but also something about making sure cable isn't restricting full throttle. It's been many years since I ran the AOD.
