T5 to aod swap
This is my first post so forgive me if it's in the wrong section. I recently picked up a 1995 gt 5.0 5 speed it's all stock except a cold air intake and true duel exhaust with flowmaster 40's. My t5 is on its last stretch of life. I just picked up a aod trans from a 93 5.0 that my buddy swapped to a t5. I also have the wiring for the trans flywheel cross member shifter and mostly everything else I'm going to get the trans rebuilt by a long time friend who also works works at a transmission shop. My question is what will I need to do besides get a computer for an auto to make this work in my car. The car will be turbod in the next couple months. This is going to be a strip street car which is why I'm going auto so please don't give me a bunch on grief for ditching the manual 😬

Sell the thing and have the T5 rebuilt.
I promise you ,, you will absolutly hate the AOD , its a slush box. Oh and by the way,, the AOD is not an electronic transmission, that was the AODe. The AOD is controlled by a TV cable from the throttle body. SO no computer in the world will do anything with it. If you absolutly want to go to an auto for the 95 then get the correct transmission for it. that would be the AODE.
So unless your willing to change the 95 intake, throttlebody, acel cable and add an TV cable then just rebuild the T5. Hell rebuild the T5 your self. I learned how to do it myself by reading the service manual. Any monkey can rebuild a T5 if they are mechanicly inclined and can follow directions.

What's wrong with the t5? If it's grindin gping into gear it's most likely the blocker rings which are easy to replace. Even if its a more substantial problem the t5 is simple to rebuild as was said. Plus it's a lot lighter than an aod so removal and install is easier.

AND......An AOD/AODE sucks up 25 hp more than a T5, before sending it back to the tires. You'll notice the difference.
Bottom line.....T5 good...........AODE bad.
Unless you have a physical ailment that prohibits a clutch, then automatics can be fun with the proper mods.

Let us know how you like the 3550 compared to a T5. I'd be curious on the pros/cons of each.
I'll be looking to rebuild/replace my T5 next year, if it makes it that long. And I'm just shopping my options right now. But I thought there was a issue with the 3550 that made it an unpopular swap with the T5. I can't remember what exactly, but maybe I'll dig around a little.
Good luck

LOL !!!
Tell us how you really feel. .......
Your probably down from the sale of your truck yet........
But, back to the matter on hand, OP, why not just get a nice fresh T5 and be done ? Easiest and probably cheaper in the long run.

Everyone is right about the T5 and AOD. The AOD is great after being fully modified. Ford sells a High Performance T5. And a upgraded AOD can be found on the internet. Right now I am happy as a pig in doo-doo with my TKO-500.
