Default Ignitor Question (TFI module)

Hey guys,

My basic question is, can the TFI module inhibit the flow of electricity to the point that it could damage your ignition coil? Being perfectly honest here, I don't fully understand what the TFI module actually does.

So I burned through 3 MSD ignition coils within 2 years. The last two have been within 6 months, and this latest one didn't even last 50 miles. Now I know those MSD coils are Infamous for being a piece of crap, and to be perfectly honest, I have had nothing but terrible experience with MSD with every product that they make except for their 6al box. I'm wondering if my TFI is going out and limiting the flow of spark?

Old setup: NGK copper top plugs, Ford Racing wires, MSD ignition coil, MSD cap and rotor, Motorcraft dizzy & TFI, MSD 6AL box.

Just ordered a Screamin Demon coil, a set of 10 mm Live Wires, and a new MSD cap and rotor.

Just in case anybody is wondering, my experiences with MSD have been the following: burned through three coils within two years, brand new TFI module didn't work out of the box, brand new distributor did not work out of the box (installed correctly), and their cap and rotor only lasted 10,000 miles.

Just got off the phone with performance distributors. They said that if you have an MSD box then leave your TFI module in distributor stock. The aftermarket TFI module gives you better Spark by telling the ignition coil to prolong the spark and the intensity of it. So essentially you're just tricking the coil into working harder. The MSD box tells your ignition when to Fire and increases the duration and intensity of the spark. So if you have one you don't need the other and you can actually inhibit performance if you upgrade both. He said that my setup is the best that you're going to get. He said the only other thing that you could do is put Platinum plugs in there, but I'm sticking with coppertop.
