Default 8.8 rear ends

i was curious about what i over heard some people talking about today while they were talking about ford rear ends
now they were not bashing but they were calling the 8.8 a "weak link" in the mustang and i was wondering is there any truth to this

I'd say that the stock T-5 is the weakest link. Guy at my work is running high 10s with a stock axled 8.8 launching at 4000 for many years and hasn't had any problems. The only thing done to it is an SVO cover with the girdle.

no, the axle shafts of the 8.8 are weak link to an 8.8.....

but the ford 9" is the mother of all rearends, and what everybody uses in their race cars.

8.8's are close, the axle shafts can brak if you don't get 31-splines and trying to do 5k launches on full slicks though

but that is common for any stock rear end

so up grading from the 28 spline axles to a 31 would give you more strength in the rear end ..?

oh and off subject but anyone know a mechanic in the northern va area that likes to pass cars through emissions without any questions for like an extra few buck..?

BLAST those SMOG TESTS.!!! [:@][:@]

A friend of mine, who is a state inspector in Northern Va. told me that they do not even run the car on a dyno anymore, they now plug into the OBDII plug, and it pulls any codes from your car. If your car is running good with all visible emissions equipment, and no check engine lights, you might pass now. They started doing it that way about 3 months ago. Best place to find the lienient inspectors is at Mom and Pop type gas stations.
