Default gasket chage

I'm going to replace my oil pan gasket but I have one question. Would I do any damage to the motor if I (while on a lift) were to put the pole jack on the harmonic balancer to lift the motor? I want to get the pan out so that I can check it out and make sure theres no sludge and that the oil screen is clear of stuff.

Default RE: gasket chage

Its not the best place but yeah you can do it, just puts some extra stress on the bearings but as long as they are alright it should be fine. But if it was me I would lift from the heads before the balancer I almost lost my hand one time jacking from the balancer. The jack started to slip and I yanked my hand out of the pan just before it gave way... I was like a few milimetres from loosing my hand.
