Default smog pump woes

i believe the source of my squeaking was from the smog pump, as it reached the height of its annoyance last night before seizing up and burning/snapping the belt, this was on the 57 freeway through placentia/orangethorpe ave. am i supposed to be able to turn the smog pump pulley freely? it is locked stiff at the moment...

what are the effects of bypassing(for now) the smog pump on a stock SD motor, and whats an easy quick way of doing it?

the pump should spin freely. I bypassed mine. If you are worried about emmisions it willpass the tail pipe test with the pump eliminated. they could give you a hard time ifthe pump is not physicly there. if you already put a new pump in just run the short belt. The connect the long belt when you get it inspected
