Default Starter/Battery question

I relocated my battery to my trunk and my question is this. Would i be able to take a 2ga. power wire from the battery directly to the starter, then a seperate 4ga. wire to my disribution box? would this work. i talked to a couple people and they told me it would. Im not worried if its NHRA sertified or whatever i just need to know if its going to work for me. my car is a street car not a strip car so im not worried about passing NHRA sertification or whatever its called. Thanks for the help
