Default EGR question

Hello everyone, as most of you know i have been having a problem with my car missing, today i unpluged the egr and my problem went away, my question is what is the egr for exactly and what does it do, it stands for exhaust gas recirculation right?

Its manily just a smog related sensor...but with it still bolted on and pluged up if the egr is stuck open it will cause somthing similar to a vacum leak and will cause the car to run poorly,i have deleted the whole egr with a self made block off plate and my car runs great without it..i looked at the egr sensor simulator and the only thing they do is keep the check engine light off...

I made my own EGR simulator. The position sensor off the valve!

If you unplugged it and the problem went away then that tells me that vacuum was getting to the valve and keeping it open. Now, the only thing stopping it from getting vacuum and recieving vacuum is the EVR solenoid located on the pass. side strut tower.

Ditto.....or having the wrong vacuum line connected to the EGR valve. It Happens! My 2¢.

I had similar problem that solonoid it would just keep bleeding off the vaccum causing a vaccum leak, it wouldnt let the egr valve open, I went to a local junkyard picked up 1 of them, problem fixed with that EGR vaccum solonoid, thats what its called anyway, the junkyard gave it to me for free, it was small item, probally the value of the part is like a buck and it cost more than that to get in, so they gave it to me for free.

no i only unpluged the egr, i have a few of the solonoids around so im going to put another one on it and see what happens. i think that is all it is, i think it is getting vaccum the whole time, which is keeping it open. thanks for the help
