RE: 1970 rearend
Ford made a 7.25" , 7.5" , 8" , 8.8" , and 9" rearends
The 7.25's were in 60's six cylinder cars, and man were they bullet proof... they could withstand up to almost 100 horsepower.
The 8's were used in the mild v-8's of that era, and the 9's basically an option or used on the high performance v8's and bigger cars
7.5's are used on the newer six our four cylinder cars i think? and the 8.8's on newer v8's
Edit: the '70 mustang rear end (9' probably) most likely won't fit your car... what you need to check is the width of the axle. If that's within about an inch, you can always just take it to a welder to have newer shock/spring mounts welded on

RE: 1970 rearend
I dont know if this helps any but i know that my 83 came with a stock 7.5 and i used a 8.8 from an 88 gt and completely redid evrerything. I am almost positive that the 79-85 all had 7.5 inch rear ends. I personally would not get a rear end from a prefox body car for my fox body.
I think that the rear end from solid framed mustangs are wider in diameter (pumpkin) or deeper i am not sure. But you could have drive shaft problems then.
I could very well be wrong
