Default X303 Cam

I Got a 89 GT. Just Lost A Cylinder And I Will Be Rebuilding Engine. I Found A Short Block With A X303 Cam In It. Everything I Am Bolting On To The Short Block Is Stock, Except For Headers, X Pipe And Flowmasters. The Car Is A 5 Speed And Will Also Get A 3.73 Gear. My Question Is Will This Cam Be To Big For My Stock Heads, Stock Intake, Stock Injectors, Stock Mass Air Meter, And Stock Furl Pump. Need Input From Anyone Using The Same Combo. Thanks

I'm using that cam in my combo, mine is an '87 short block w/'66 289 heads, carbureted.
First, you need to do a Piston-to-Valves clearance check and notch pistons, if required (I had to).

Second, need to upgrade the valve train to support the X303 lift requirements.

Third, this cam operating range starts @3200 rpms, lower than that, power is a desire, over 4400rpm....BAM.

Fourth, EFI will need help handling it (chip, Tweecer, MAF, TB,......) otherwise, idle issues, lean, rich, etc, etc.....

Great thing about it, besides its upper range power....the sound, it would sound something similar to this.

LUK(=Let Us Know) what you decide. GL

I would try to stay away from a single pattern cam with cast prodution heads...maybe try looking at a TFS stage 1..this cam favors the exhaust side more and that's what all cast ford heads need.Plus its cheaper..

Thanks for the link. i take it the stage 1 is the first on the list.

Good idle, strong midrange power. Aftermarket intake, heads, and headers recommended. Requires modified mass airflow. Compression ratio: 9.0:1 to 10.5:1

New Question how is it that I need to modify the mass airflow meter.
