Default 88 5.0 wont start

I have an 88gt, the car doesnt start when it gets real cold or snows. I have replaced the battery (720cca optima red top), the alternator, the positive and negative terminals and cables. when I replaced the battery it started great even in the cold. It just snowed a couple days ago and I brushed off the car and tried to start it and I got nothing. So I assume it is the battery. Could something be discharging the battery or could it happen because it is so cold? My only other thought is wiring but what would I look for if it is the wiring? any help would be great thanks.

I figured out that it is not starting because the battery keeps becoming discharged. Somehow, something is discharging it. Would the fuse links or inertia switch cause the battery to drain. It happened on the battery I had before but I didnt think it would happen to the optima. what else should I look for?

it pretty much just makes a clicking noise. where should I look for bare wires at? when you had bare wires did you just wrap them in electrical tape or did you replace them?

The first thing that you want to check is to see if there is a draw on the battery when the car is off. This is how you do it:

1. loosen positive battery terminal, but do not remove it.

2. Get a jumper wire and clamp iton the terminal of the battery and the battery cable. DO NOT seperate the cable from the battery without having the jumper wire connected. If you do this you may reset whatever is drawing if there is something.

3. Take a volt meter and contact the terminal and the cable, then remove the jumper.

4. Take the reading. This is your draw, and what is killing your battery. I forget what the right reading is but I think it is like half a volt for your KAM(keep alive memory)

5. With the meter still connected the prementioned way start pulling fuses. A helper is good so you dont have to run back and forth. When you pull the right fuse and the draw stops that is your circit. Remember to pull relays too along with things like amp fuses and alarm fuses.

6. When looking for a source rememberwiring mods are the most common source.

7.Find out everything that is on the circit and check for draw on each of them.

Good luck!

Check for resistance at the connecton if that is less than .4 ohms it is good so just wrap it in electrical tape.
