Default Extra Piece After Engine Disassembly :-\

ok so my friend and I took apart most of the front end of my block to install pulleys, paint some stuff, and delete the AC, and after we finished we found this extra piece (see pictures). we dont think its from any of the AC components, but rather the power steering. its pretty small, maybe an inch and a half by a half inch. were pretty sure it goes in the bigger of the two power steering lines because when we fired it up it was fine, but no power steering. if anyone knows what this piece is could you let me know and which way it goes in?

Thanks, Rob

ok, so the spring goes in first. now we narrowed it down to 2 possiblilties, flat side against the spring or away. im kinda leaning towards flat side against the spring.

Small side will actuall probably fit inside the spring. If not then try it both ways until you get it.
