Default Battery

Hey, well my battery is dead what battery should I replace it with? I mean do the different battery brands make much of a difference, also I had a 580 (amps?) but Advanced Auto Parts said that the standard for my car is 550 BUT Auto Zone said the standard for my car is 580. So what should I go with??? Also I was planing to change my battery wire to a 4 gauge, I just figure bigger is better.. is there any reason why I shouldnt???

By all means, replace the cables to larger gauge. Less heat, more amp draw. When I replace my battery I'm going to the small Optima red top. $129 at summit, totally maintenance free and 800 cold cranking amps, fully sealed and can be mounted in any position.

More cranking power on cold starts, the battery stays charged when sitting for long periods. Just do one thing regardless of which battery you buy. Don't put it in when partially charged. Make sure it has a full charge, because alternators aren't designed to charge a depleted battery, it blows the diodes.

How would I go about checking those, would I have to take it to a shop or could I do it on my own? If I can do it on my own, details if you can...
