Default help! so confused

ok the block casting # looks like E8SE which means its a 1988 block but the heads say E5AE which means 1985. the guy i bought the car from said the engine was from an 85. would 1985 heads fit on a 1988 block? i just ordered abunch of parts and this will cause problems. i need to know the year and month the block was cast so i can order the piston rings. in 1985 they had 3 different sets. HELP!!!

The 85 heads will go right on a 1988 block and vice versa, Its the same exact block. Not sure why anyone would have put the 85 heads on though, the E7's breath better.

the last mustang that rolled off with a carb was in 85. they kept them in the 5.0 truck engines until 87
