Default 3 inch exhaust

I have 3 inch exhaust back to some flowmasters and they are 3 inch in and 2 1/2 inch out when I bought the car it had dumps on it and it was way to loud to drive so I took it to a muffler shop to get the rest of the exhaust put on it. I dident relise at the time that they put 2 1/4 tailpipes on it wich defetes the pourpose of starting out with 3 inch. My question is, is there anywhere where I can get 3 inch mandrel bent tailpipes for my 89 gt stang? they are the pieces that go from the muffler over the rear axel and kick down right before the rear bumper. I want to get these because I want to get some 3 inch in 3 inch out mufflers. What muffler would you suggest, I was thinking with flowmasters but I kinda like the warlock race mufflers that you can take the 3 wingnuts off and remove that little plate to make them like open headers. Thanks Nick

how big is your blower?

3" isn't really optimal exhaust till you hit 450+ hp. otherwise your killing yourself.

unless you have like a super charger or nos, i would take the 3" exhaust off and go with 2.5" exhaust. otherwise your not getting any backpressure and thats not good for your motor, me i have 2.5" exhaust coming to 3" tips but im going to put 3.5" tips when i pull my motor and rebuild it sometime during the summer.

The no back pressure hurt your car is a myth, you will still have a small amount of back pressure with 3 inch pipe. What really happens is that you shift the power higher in the RPM range.

What can hurt your enging is running open headers for a good amount of time.

On an otherwise stock car (ie stock valve springs and such) your right it might hurt over a long period of time, but you would have to daily drive it for a long time.

The daily drive comment was about OPEN headers not 3 inch. I do however agree that you car does not NEED 3 inch pipe, but it is a fact that the no backpressure thing from 3 inch is a myth plain and simple. I haveheard it before and it stems from old timers from the 60's who did not know any better. Like I said it will move you peak power around a little bit but it will not ever hurt the car. Sorry if I seem stubborn about this but I hate when mis-information and myths are posted here, it happens way way too much and I am getting quite sick of it.
