Crate Motor
Hey guys..i need some advice. Looking at a brand new still in the 302 crate...motor built by excessive motorsports. Has cobra intake and gt-40 heads and cam..heads and intake have been ported. He wants 3000 for it.. Let me know if this is a good deal or not.
crate motors are a rookies way of being a big shot, build it your self and enjoy it, thats the waymotor sports aresuposed to be, not just get in a car and drive. You will have more pride in the car if you do it your self. SMOKIN ricers in your car that you built is twice the satisfaction. get dirty. and 3000 seems to be a good deal though.<edited><editID>619socalstang</editID><editDate>38029.6452546296</editDate></edited>
I know I would get more satisfaction from doing it myself...but look at it through my perspective. I have a car w/ all the exhaust and transmission work done. The engine is all stock with 150,000 miles on it. I have the choice of buying heads, intake, cam, throttle body, and MAF meter......or buying a brand new engine that has all of this...What do yall think?????? Let me know!!
Yeah. Check around..
Figure out some stuff before you buy it.
Do you want to make a lot of power? Or would this engine be fine? If you want a lot of power, you're better off building something yourself (or having it built). I don't buy this crap about getting dirty and doing it yourself. I do what I can myself, but stuff that requires special tools or precise measurement/clearances I outsource to more qualified people.
back to the engine though - if you're thinking forced induction/n2o, make sure it's got forged internals. If you want a fair bit more power than stock, but want to go all motor, consider high compression and/or stroker stuff. This is all stuff you should figure out before buying anything.
