Default Will not shift

Hey guys I have a 86 5.0 GT Automatic ,I changed the filter and fluids and it still will not shift out of first. Sometimes it seems like it does but its only slipping. Is this a major issue or is there something else I need to look at. I think I might need to replace it.

might as well you have something going wrong inside the tranny unless it's a computer error

they can't tell you whats wrong unless it's throwing a code..there are a lot of things that can be causing it...the only way we can tell what is wrong with a tranny is when it's throwing a code and we scan it

I put in D and start driving and it just stays in one gear wont shift. If I purp the gas then it tries but feels like it is skipping. Then if i drop the shifter into first it will drop down a gear. Just cant get it to go into second. I have a frien who is going to stop by with a code reader and see what comes up.

its an AOD not AODE no codes for this tranny.

if its not shifting. try this remove tail shaft housing and inspect the governor. alot of times the piston gets gummed up with debris. take it apart and see if you can move the piston freely. if not then spray it down with some brake cleaner then address it with some ATF and then reinstall.

this was something that happend to me before. it would only shift at 6k and only when tranny was warm. after talking and researching thats what i came up with and i cleaned it. later i found it shifted again normally

Was it fine before you changed the fluid/filter.? If so, it's most likely something you did. Pull the pan back off and look around. Maybe you knocked something off/loose or did something to the kick down cable.

AOD dont have Kickdown cables

sometimes changing old fluid can lead to problems. by changing the old old fluid it will free up debris which can get into places and clog them up. like a governor and etc
