AOD or T5

AOD or T5
I have a 1988 Mustang GT thats all stock except for some underdrive pulleys, headers, off-road h-pipe, flowmaster cat-back, and some 3.55 gears. Its an auto, and the best 1/4 ET I could get was a 14.73. The tranny has blown out overdrive so it needs to go. Im thinkin bout converting it to a 5 speed, but its so much more expensive to do that then rebuilding another aod. And ive seen some pretty wicked AOD fox-bodies. Im a lil tight for cash rite now, and unsure what i should do. what do you guys think?

-Upgrade Cold Air Intake
-Upgrade Mass Air Sensor
-Upgrade Throttle body/egr spacer

fixed. the car will be faster like this than with a manual, as well as more consistant. still, manuals are def more fun to drive.

RE: AOD or T5
i don't know the cost on auto parts but the manual stuff can be had for probably about
350-500 for a t5
100 for pedal assembly
200 for clutch
??? clutch cable
100 misc crap
looks to be under a thousand to me how much does all that auto stuff cost?
also what kind of et's is he looking at with the new auto tranny compared to the t5

I'm looking to ease my way into the 13s without nitrous. And with a 3000 stall torque converter, do i still need stick with some 4.10s, which seems to be recommended with the AOD, or could I step down to a 3.73?

RE: AOD or T5
I SAY GET SOME 3.73 gears if its your only car!
here is a quote from Joe Munsch:
"My goal was to make my 15-sec. AOD coupe go 12s with as little expense as possible. I began by attacking the fundamentals.
Intake, throttle body, mass air meter, rear axle ratio and torque converter all had to go. I saved my Edlelbrock EFI intake, C&L 73mm MAF, BBK 70mm throttle body, 1-5/8" MAC shorty headers and 2-1/2" FlowMaster mufflers from my previous car. These parts had proven good so they immediately went on this car. The car wouldn't break the street tires loose at the track so I acquired a B&M Holeshot 3000 converter. Wow! What a difference that makes. Those changes got me to the 13s."
here's afew links on my favorites list that i use for notes on AOD stuff
