Default Opinions?

OK I found a white 1986 LX 5.0 sitting about 5 miles from my house. He was asking $3500 for it but I've got him down to $2100 and he said that is as low as he can go. The car has T-tops, C-4,the paint is decent but it does have some chips and rust on the metal around the T-tops. Most of the weatherstripping is dry rotted and the hood has a hole where a scoop used to be. There is also a 8 point rollcage, harness for driver and the factory gauge cluster is now filled with Autometers and the dash is cracked. The only perfomance mods though are : B&M shifter, shift kit, intake, carb, 3.73s, and it comes with two extra rear wheels with MT ET streets mounted, also the kid claims the owner before him put a small cam in it which if he did, it is extremely mild. The power steering, heat, AC, and radio have all been stripped. My main concern is the wiring because it has been spliced and connected all over like I have never seen. The car has had to be jumped to be test driven because he says the battery is dead. Should I buy this car? Im wanting a street/strip car and Im just having some tough luck. Is it worth $2100? Sorry for asking so many questions I really just dont know what this car is worth. Oh and the car traps 120 mph from what the kid told me, thought you might get a kick out of that. Thanks alot for any help.

Don't touch it. Unless you want to start from scratch.

Is it the wiring that I should be the most concerned about? Thanks for your reply.

There is a reason that its all spliced up. Sounds like it's a backyard type fix. I would find out why it was chewed up in the first place.

Well the kid that has it now doesnt know anything about it. I agree with you though that whoever had it before him was a half-a*s guy that slapped it together and didnt do it right. There are more cons than pros for the car but Im not really sure what to expect for only $2100.

From my recent experience of looking for a foxbody for a year, the more you spend up front for a decent car, the less you will spend down the road trying to get the car right. My 2 cents is, spend an extra$1.5k to $2k now and get yourself a good car for around $3500-$4000. Its better than spending $2100 on that car and then having to dump another $5k into it to get it running right and looking good.

I know but I just dont have enough money right now. There is a nice 84 GT a few blocks away for $4500 but I wont have any money left over for other stuff I want to do to it.

Yeah maybe in the half mile! W/ the mods listed, I'll call BS on the trap speed.

Whatever ask anyone around here, all it takes is an exhaust and gears to trap over 120 . And Im guessing that you were aware that I knew the car wouldnt run that fast, thats why I said everyone would get a kick out of that.
