I totally agree with dime, first time my cable snapped on me was just as I got off the freeway. I pulled it over to a school parked it got a ride to the parts store and back. Had the new one in adjusted and back on the road in no time. Easy fix next time it happen (cheap a$$ autozone crap cables)took me half the time to replace it. As for the transmission this last time I decided hell give it a try. Learned a lot about the innards of a T5 and they are not that difficult to tear down and rebuild (as long as u have a puller and press for the bearings). When it comes time for the rear end I know someone who has done them before and he is gonna walk me thru it and show me first hand how to check the backlash and etc. At least this way I know my parts got used and what was done to it. I have a hard time letting anyone work on my car when I can't be right there watching.

Speaking ofhydraulic presses, what does a decent one cost, one that could handle a job like pressing the gears back on.

+1

My dad helped me do the seals in my datsun 5 speed tranny and right now we are doing my 3.73 swap. First time I've done either and I've learned a lot.

Yea, would love to do it myself. Don't have a garage and way too busy with...
a) store #1, shortstaffed
b) opening store #2, 70 miles away
c) wedding in 6 weeks
d) having a product developed and sold (wholesale stuff)
I would just like some time to drive it. Sold my bike this year because I didn't have time to ride. Been a busy 2 years.
