Default Explorer rear end

I just lucked into a '90 lx hatchback 4cyl that I want to convert to a V8. I have access to a 8.8 4.10 rear end out of an Explorer. What would it take to make this work in my stang? I'd like use it cause it has the disc brakes and 31 spline axles. Anyone else tried this?

You can't use the housing but you can use the 31 spline traction lock and 4.10's in your car.

Yep, only the gears and diff are usable on a Mustang....Then you'll still need Fox-length 31 spline axle shafts. The Explorer axle shafts are too wide. The axle housing is set up for a leaf spring suspension, not the Mustang style "4-link", so wouldn't work without alot of cutting and fabricating. NOT worth the trouble since loaded Mustang and T-bird axle assemblies are still fairly cheap and easy to find and bolt right in.
