Default engine confusion?

I wasn't entirely sure where to put this but... anyhow. Two years ago I bought a 1994 Mustang GT.

Lately, I have been having trouble with it cutting off on me and there has been a few speculations, but that's not what I am posting about. My uncle was replacing a part (not sure which part, exactly), but he bought a GT part, but this part doesn't fit and he went on and bought a cobra part for the car which did fit. I came home and he tells me that it's a cobra engine in my GT. I don't really know what to think of this, exactly, but anyhow.

I talked to someone today if you could tell a difference by looking at it and we talked and he said that went the police force was still using mustangs they would put cobra engines in mustangs of this particular body style and said that mine could have been a misplaced mustang that should have gone to the force or something. He asked if it said anything on top of the engine and I told him it said "5.0 HO, for high output," and he said that confirmed that it is actually a cobra engine.

Given this information, he told me I would have to change the chip in order for it to drive like a cobra, seeing as it's apparently been driven as a GT and it's not as fast as a cobra.

So.. yeah. I'm kind of confused?

i have a 1994 GT and it also has 5.0 HO on it that does not mean that it is a cobra, cobra engines clearly say cobra on the intake my freind has a 1995 cobra and to tell you the truth his car is not much faster than mine you can hardly tell the diffrence in power. I would sugest having your car dino tuned by a profetional they will tell you what is rong, my car did the same thing when i $ it, the past owner removed the catalitic converters and when he did he removed the aft O2 sinsers wich made the engine run like you explaining, you might want to check all 4 O2 sinsers and make shure there okay. good luck

i am gutting my 1994 mustang and making it a drag car, if there is any parts your needing i still have some left, i am selling all my parts on ebay but if you need something i could work it out with you.

atlas, get under the hood and start taking pictures.. I wanna see where the oil filter screws on, I'd like a picture of the intake manifold, and a clear shot of the passenger side head, towards the front end of the motor... just above the head bolts

Like the other guys said there's a couple visual cues to see if it's a Cobra engine or not. The intake manifold is the big one but the places Adder asked you to take pics of will also reveal the other differences.

Here's a pic of a '94 Cobra engine: http://www.ponyracer.com/images/1994..._installed.jpg
