Default easy question for you smart guys....

I am trying to go quicker in the 1/4 and my question is, if I run some 104 fuel and bump my timing way up, will it make any more power? I was going to bring a couple galons of some 104 and bump my timing and see, but I figure I would ask and just save my gas money if it is a bad idea.

Yes, you get 3-4hp per degree of timing ............. to a point.

You cant just keep bumping timing to infinity and expect more and more power.
cam, engine compression, spark plug gap and some other factors come into play
The thermal dynamics involved can get pretty complicated

but yes, what you're planning should work, but dont expect huge gains and dont get carried away.

I was going to go to 18*...think that is too far? I run 13-14 now, any more I detonate, so I thought 18 might give me that little bit more that I might need.

believe it or not.. but advancing the timing that far might even net you a LOSS in HP.

I found that with my car, 12° seemed to be its sweet spot. I ran 10 and made 247hp, then bumped it to 15 and made 243

I came back down to 12-13 and made 253

Hmmm. Think maybe I should still give it a try? Just have to get some 104 to keep from detonating...whatcha think?

here's a messed up story. i bought my stang in 2000. never checked timing until this year. i found it at 8 degrees. YES, 8 DEGREES. they call that being retarded. we put it up to 14 and left it there. i can feel a difference somewhat.

10 degrees is stock.....pull the spout connector and set the base timing then put the spout back in and the computer will do the rest from thereyes you can run 87 octane but once you set it around 14 to 15 it may ping/ detonate so at that point you'd need to run high test gas!!!
