Well, i finally got off my fat *** and hooked up my new dig 6 ignition. At first i got scared because it would not crank, then realized it was dragging too much, so i rotated the cap to retard timing and it started right up. A couple of months ago my polymer dizzy gear broke and had to get a new one. Now i have to tune the HP 750 all over again because my timing was off ,because i had started shredding teeth on the gear. Took it for a spin, running rich as hell and and stuttering under load. with car sitting still it rev's up great but under load it need's work, it got dark, so i have not set timing yet. Hopefully when i set timing and get my trusty vacuum guage to adjust carb all will be well. It will be tune time soon, i want it just right because of the over 11.1 compression, i dont need detonation. Plus i am interested in numbers it will put out. Sorry so long, just had to share.
so what made you decide to go with the digital? not knocking it, just curious
I had the dig in before. I toasted it by accident. I was not getting spark, and measured my coil and i was only getting .7 volts, so jumped 12 volts from solenoid to coil, tried to start it and smoked my ign. box. Well, after some reading i realized the the dig 6 is a capacitive inductive design, what that means is i am not supposed to get voltage at coil unless it is running. Then i should be around 50k volts, so it was my stupid mistake. The spark problem i was having is because my polymer (stupid piece of expensive plastic)dizzy gear had shredded 6 teeth. So i had to get another gear and replace my ign. I like the dig. because it has two rev limiters and two dials to retard timing, one for running nitrous and the other for easier starting. You do all this with a small screwdriver, i have always loved the dig box, so i went ahead and spent the $320 for another one. I replaced my gear with a iron gear, i am starting to second guess and think maybe i should have went with a bronze. I spin engine to 6800 rpm and the lift on cam with 1.7 RR is 625/661, with dur @ .050 being 246/259.
Ha Ha smart ***. j/k. I made one last nite on my phone and it turned out terrible, i think i was too close. I will be making another one before the end of the week.
Why do you think your car is shuttering under load? Mine will do the same thing, but it comes and goes.
It is definatly studdering and hesitating under load. In the shop it accelerates great while sitting in neutral but when i am on the road i have the problems. It started when i changed my PV, then shortly after i lost spark because of my dizzy. I am not sure if it was just a coincidence that it started running poor because of my dizzygeargoing bad about the same time i changed power valve. I was doing alot of tuning to the carb also before also, i took the carb off to adjust my secondaries, but i was not sure how to do it. Now i know how, there is like a thin square bore that runs up the venturi and you want to adjust the throttle blades so you only see a very small square. I did not understand earlier than i was able to find a pic. When i get time this week i am going to tune carb again since i have a better idea and see how it goes. If that is not the problem than i will keep searching.
