Battery problem.
so last night car wont start, have some friends push it and push start it, drive home, get into it this morning, still wont start, take the cable off the battery and clean them with a wire brush put everything back on have a friend jump me, drove it for a few miles and now it cranks slow. starts but slowly. i dont think its the battery and i know i have a short in the car, when i bring the light down on the roof it blows a fuse, i just have no clue how to find that short. any ideas?

RE: Battery problem.
well if corrosion was the issue it would not allow the alternator to properly charge the battery and if you think the alternator will do that and bring the battery back up to a full charge ...it won't...you need to fully restore the charge to the battery via a charger or run the risk of burning out your alt......but don't be to sure the battery is good.....you can check the specific gravity of each individual cell and it should be above 1250 if you find any one individual cell that is lower than the others then the battery is probably sulfated and shorted a cell or has a weak cell but if all are low then the battery will just need a good charge....as for the short you need to isolate it to a circuit or find out via a diagram what all circuits are tapped off of the fuse that blows and unplug each component individualy until the fuse wont blow then you'll know which system in that circuit has the short to B+ meaning you have a short on the power side of the circuit and not the ground side so all you would need to trace is the power side of the circuit via a diagram and look for any chaffed wiring that may go through tight bends or door hinge areas and or the component that the circuit drives may be shorted too.
