steam question again
ok i cant figure this one out but when its cold out i have way too much steam coming out my tail pipes compared to most of the other cars on the road. during the day if its not too cold i have zero steam.i havent lost any noticable coolant since i added new antifreeze about 3 weeks or so ago.i have been getting crap gas milage, i replaced my o2s with newer ish ones and saw a differance in how my engine was running, but i kinda think its going down hill slighty again. im wondering if its cus i have no cats that i make more steam than catted cars???ive never had a 5.0l mustang in the winter or cold seasons before so im not too sure what to compare it to. my friend said his old 86 made steam too, but not constantly like mine when its cold. he had catts too
It's fine so stop worrying about it as long as your not loosing coolant.........it's just condensation evaporating out of the exhaust early in the morning......think of what happens when you boil a pot of water on the stove....what do you see rise in the air while it's boiling???
out of the 15 some cars ive owned none have ever made this much steam , and steam comes from water, is there really that much water in my fuel?? i leave cloud of steam when i leave a parking lot and it wifts past my window, to me that seems abnormal
He said some of the steam go's away eventually. Would it be possible his head gaskets are leaking and as the car warm's up they seal a little better. I watched the video he posted of his car running a while back, that do's not look normal. I know washington is the evergreen state and rain's alot but his seems very excessive. I lived in the tacoma area 4 years and never had that much condensation. I know you just did head gaskets, have you replaced to see if that is your problem.
no it doesnt go away on a cold day.if its cold it never goes away, yeah its excessive im my opinion. today is really cold and i never looked too much at other cars but alot of them have as much crap coming out as mine does this morning, but there was ice on the windsheild too this morning. i dunno .i dont have time to redo everything as far as headgaskets. i see no coolant loss anyways. i geuss theres no magic answer like im looking for here, lol

If it was say a bad gasket of cracked head, wouldn't it do it all the time warm or cold?? YES. I wouldn't worry.

Stand behind the car and smell the exhaust... that'll tell you a lot right there.. if your not smelling any coolant in it then I wouldnt worry to much. Its a little odd but its not totally uncommon.
