Default 347 stroker advice

This winter im planning on pulling my 302 out of my 84 and rebuild it with a 347 stroker kit. I have a basic idea of how to go about it, but I would like to hear some advice from those who might have done this install before. any books or magazine articles you found helpfull will help to. I hope to make about 425hp when im done.
my motor came out of a 90 gt so its a roller cam, so the stroker kit + heads should make that number pretty easilly.my motor has a demon 625cfm carb on it now, will that be enough for a stroker or do i need like a 750cfm? I,ve heard in some magazines that stroker blocks need the cylinder skirts machined to allow room for the crank, anyone know what exactly that entails?

Lets start with what you budget is ?

$4500 will get you a very nice 500hp 347, and you can keep your old engine.

I've seen kits online for around 7-800 bucks then figure 4-500 for bare aluminun heads, 2-300 for cam and lifter kit, gaskets, valvesblah blah blah...... i dunno, around $ 2000

You're not going to get a 425hp 347 for 2g's. My 331 is going to cost 4+. I hope to make about 380+hp.

[sm=WTFsgign.gif]why even think of buying unassembled aluminum heads/???? just buy them ready to go..you won't save much that way..and a decent set of heads 1000 to 1300....pending on what stage port job you buy stroker kit 800 to 1000 for a decent one plus a good intake and gaskets and a good balancer and all machine work and balance job..alll that could run you 800 to 1000 more so any miscelaneous stuff you'll need you can expect to spend 3500 to 4000..and that's truthfully...2000 grand will get you slop from the pigs trough[:'(]...but you can get a decent stroker built from ford stokers for that price and that's for just the short block

[&o]maybe im crazy I just thought id get bare heads so i can match the valves and springs to the cam. I' ll save alittle money cuz im gonna build the motor in my garage myself. how much does it cost to have the block machined for a kit like that? I dont neccicarily need the best of the best for parts, but I dont want to drive it for 6 months and have to tear it down again either. the only reason I was going to rebuild was because I have no idea how many miles are on my motor, and it burns a little oil. a short-block might not be a bad idea, but id still nead heads, cam, lifters, gaskets.

I hate how expensive this crap is.

The machining for the 347 on your old block will be $800 alone + $800 for stroker kit + assembly

You can buy a complete 347 short block from fordstrokers.com for $1,700
Another $2,000 for custom cam with matching 185-195cc heads and timing gear set.
Another $700-1000 for intake and rocker arms and other stuff.

Trust me the cheapest this is going to cost is about $4,500 and thats done the right way with
proper heads, decent but not over done internals, custom cam with match valve springs. ect ect.

rbarn isright.......I'm about to order my stroker ..infact probably tonight from fordstrokers and I'm upgrading the crank and balancer and I'm expecting to spend around 2600 for the short block..I'll of course be sending woody my cam to degree it in and alum. flywheel and stud girdle and pro tray...but there no short cuts on a stroker if you want it to last

i plan on ordering a fordstroker short block unless i just do a stock rebuild... there isnt really any good corners to cut when building something that you want to make decent power and put good numbers down... end of story
