you should install them..... on any 10.5 set up they have them...they are what absorb the brunt of the blow

I've tapped them in place if you bought the ford racing dowl and pressure plate bolt kit..they should just tap in place..however if you have an aluminum flywheel like a fidanza..forget it!!! you must use a vise to press them in place...I had a few friends bring their's buy wondering how I got them in my aluminum flywheel cause they were having one heck of a time trying to tap them in......and 3 min later I cam back with theirs done..to their suprise...but if it's a stock flywheel they should just tap in

They do do that in a sense but I ran a reman flywheel for a while without them and was using slicks and launching hard....the pressure plate will bolt up fine and be centered without them as I had no probs...however out of worry I decided to remove the tranny and install them as I didn't have access to any when first installing and a few of the bolts I noticed were damage from the abuse I was giving the car at the track...since installing the alignment.dowl pins..I've had no issues so they serve a dual function and that's what I was refering to by the comment

I put one in my 85 and one in my 66 and both ...well actually the first one I tried tapping in and got it in but I had to tap harder then I liked so I pressed the rest in with the vise on the bench and they went in easy that way sometimes you win easy other times...well you know
