Default warm up

I have been letting my car warm up every morning, since its been cold, for about5-10 minutes before i go to school. The car runs and drivesmuch better if Igive it time to warm up. If I drive it with out warming it up when i push the gas pedal somtimes it takes a second for it to kick in (sorry if that confusing). Once its warm everything is normal and it runs great.

Someone told me that it is bad to let your car warm up. I find it a little hard to believe since i know so many people who let their cars warm up. Is there any truth to this? Should i stop warming my car up?

You should always let your car warm up, it'll last longer that way. Whoever told you it's bad to let it warm up is a moron, and you should kick them in the *****. Think about it, if you don't let it warm up before you drive, what still happens as you drive it anyway? Yeah, that's right, it gets warm. Letting it warm up first before driving it is better on the parts and oil than driving it cold.

It is not necessarily a bad thing. Just when you get the engine warm, that doesn't mean that you should go out and immediately start pounding on it. Keep in mind that when the car is cold, and you start it up to "warm it up" you are only warming up the engine. The tranny fluid will still be cold. This can cause damage to the tranny if you get carried away too fast, so let both the engine and tranny reach operating temp before hitting the gas pedal hard.

The only time I let my cars warm up is when Im scraping ice off the windows.
I hate to leave it running and waste gas.

I always let mine warm up also. It always runs better, and it's good to get the oil warm.

I like to let mine run for a minute or two on cool mornings. When its cold, I like to let the temp gauge come off rock bottom. I still drive very, very easy after that. Letting it idel to operating temp., or anywhere near thatis a waste, no need for excessive ideling.

For those with frost on the windshield, try putting a towel on it. If the wind doesn't blow it off, it will keep it from icing up.

you always let the car warm up when its cold out. when its been sitting and the block is cold the rings and pistons shrink if you want to put it that way and the oil is thick and doesnt flow as well. if you just start the car and take off you get piston slap in the cylenders. this is because you didnt let the engine warm so the pistons and rings havent expanded and they have just enough room to move around and "slap" the cylender walls. also not letting the oil warm up causes it to not lubricate as well, its thick and doesnt flow as well like when you wait to let the car warm up
