? About bolting block on engine stand
[/align]I am getting ready to get a used 1995 5.0L HO motor delivered monday, I have a 1000lb universal engine stand and I need to know what size bolts to use to bolt the block to the standplate, I was told by someone that they thought 7/16 coarse thread and 3" long would do it. I picked up 4 of them today and the length seems perfect but is the 7/16 coarse thread correct....Thanks Jim

i dont know the exact thread or pitch but its the same as a head bolt. I have 3 block in my garage being held up by head bolts. use the lower head bolts and you should have no problems.

7/16"-14 bolts is what you need. My engine stand requires 4" long bolts and every engine stand I've seen is basically the same, so I think you may need longer bolts. Better a little long than short! (that's what she said )
Good luck!

You can always ask a friend to come over and help later, also useless trivia, some engine builders will not build an engine on a stand, only on the ground. I used a stand myself and bolted a 1000 lb electric winch to my garage ceiling beams so I can yank an engine anytime I need to, by myself. Cost me 60 bucks plus 12 for the long bolts.

I've read someplace about the later thin-wall blocks taking a 'set' to them when left on an engine stand for a long time.
THEY SEEM TO BEND BY THEMSELVES....
Hard to believe but metal can be strange.
From what I understand, the bending will have affect on the main bearing alingnment.....
