what size are the drum brakes in a 86 gt out of the factory?? 10 or 9 inch

86 are Ibelieve 10 inch as were in85 AFTER THAT I know for sure 87 and up were 11 inch on the front

 

All Fox body factory V8 drum brakes are 9".
The front rotors will be 10.06" on the 1979, 1982 - 1986.
The rotors on 1987 - 1993 are 10.84"

 

s*** I had no parking brake so i ordered a new cable and got the self adjuster kit as well but he asked me size and i was like......dunno? whatever stock was so he gave me the kit for a 10inch brake. damnit

 

Just take them back if you can, if not they might work with your 9" brakes. Our Aerostar has 10" and I had to do an emergency repair to the self adjusters when my wife was in the hospital. All I had was a complete set of 9" Ranger brakes and while not exactly the same as the 10" parts the spring and self adjuster fit ok and have been working well since October.
