79-93 Fox Bodies, nearly gone

I know there are still plenty of Fox Bodies out there, but I have noticed in the last 2 or 3 years that there are not somany for sale and if thereis they are heavily modded (more expensive) or they are beat down really badly. See, I've been checking the classifieds on these as far back as 5+ years ago and have always seen 3x the foxes for saleand there were many really good ones, by that I mean fully stock, good exterior and interior with 80-120K miles going for $5000 roughly. I was wondering if anyone else is noticing that Foxes are getting a little harder to come by.

I agree with you. Especially hard to find is the notchback. Also, you will find a lot of 4 cylinder conversions.

camaroeater 12-04-2007 10:07 AM

RE: 79-93 Fox Bodies, nearly gone

When I first saw the notchback i didn't like it, but have grown to like it alot lately....andyour right, its hard to come by. Now I see why people convert 4's to 8's. I'd choose a notchback over my 88 5.0 hatch now.

RE: 79-93 Fox Bodies, nearly gone

To me it's very funny how hard it is to find a good Notchback. They made just as many Notch as Hatch but all I see for sale are Hatch. When you do find a good Notch it's very expensive.

I had to look for 3 years to find a good one for a cheap price. And it was a 4 and yellow.

Yea, when I bought my hatchback in Nov last year I saw one Red notch that looked to be in very good shap going for only like 3500 or 4000 should've grabbed it. Hey, do you know if they produced the notchin 87-93 and was it produced in 86 and prior.

tmuti13 12-04-2007 10:45 AM

RE: 79-93 Fox Bodies, nearly gone

I think the notch was produced in every year of the fox body. However, if I remember correctly, there were fewer notchs produced than GT's or LX hatch's every year. It took me about 8 months of looking hard every day (autotrader, cars.com, craigslist) to find mine. I wound up picking up a 93 that needed a little work (nothing major) for $3200.

Good link fastblack, Not true is right .
It's interesting that from 86-89 Ford made twice as many hatch's to coupes, then from 1990 -1993 it was 3 times hatch's to coupes..
Also interesting is in 1991 they made more converts then coupes..
I'll tell you what, recently I'veseen some mintlate model original 5.0Coupesfetch some nice numbers on E Bay, 20 year old car { just becoming a classic } with a limited production run like that is sure to go up in value & be a nice collecter car one day..
Also that chart doesnt go into how many are 4cylinders cars..

ya they are becomming more rare but they are still pretty easy to find. ive been lookin at them for 9 years now.. mostly cuz i was dreaming of buying one.. but it also depends on ur area. if its up north its much harder to find one in good shape due to the snow/ice/salt (ie crashing and rotting) but down south it would be easier to find one in good shape

kinda hard to find in north east pa, minus the beat to hell ones... did see a really nice notch for sale the other day, 306 HCI, all sorts of goodies was running like 7grand though, paint was flawless too, it was pretty built.

saw it a week or two ago at the gas station.

Any reasonable condition/priced FOX of any style starting to get a little hard to find here in Arizona as well.
I think prices have been trending upward in last 2-3 years.

Is it true that the 85 and the 86 lx coupes 5.0 arelimited production? I bought my 86 coupe ten years ago and I have yet to see another one on the road in my area. I rarely see any for sale. I see hatch and 4 cyl cars every now and then.

Cad T Bird 500 12-04-2007 08:37 PM

RE: 79-93 Fox Bodies, nearly gone

In the early years they made more notch but the later year they made less. So I was wrong overall but with 938,686 Coupes and 1,375,405 Hatchbacks it was 40 to 60 percent.
http://www.mustangupgrades.net/ford_..._numbers.shtml

Anyway you would think with over 900k made there would be more out there. In the Northwest you see 20 hatch for every 1 notch for sale.

i am on the opposite side of the fence then you guys. i am trying to unload a notch which i think is in pretty good shape. probably another 300 for interior parts and the car would be mint. i think cause it is a auto it hurts the value but a brand new paint job on a 91 coupe auto with 85k i can't get a reasonable offer for the car. i have been asking 5500 but get alot of lowball offers that i am not interested in. car is 100% mechanically not a damn thing wrong with it. only thing is the stupid front seats are dirty because of the previous owner. ohh yea i am the second owner of the car also. original v8 car and everything. so it goes to show you i think it is just harder to sell these cars and i see a bunch of them forsale. when i wanted to buy a notch i couldn't find one for the life of me. now the market around me seems to be flooded.

Cad T Bird 500 12-04-2007 10:47 PM

RE: 79-93 Fox Bodies, nearly gone

I have been thinking. Maybe even though 40% were notch, maybe most of them were 2.3 cars and not 5.0. And maybe most 5.0 were hatch.

This would explain why you don't see many Notch's around, once a 2.3 car wears out you throw it away, they are not as collectable as the 5.0 cars.

Does anybody know of any production number that state the percentage of engine types by body types?

That is why I am hanging on to mine..

Its a '92 hatch LX, full load withsunroof,AC, etc, except PW
5gear 115,000 km (70,000 miles) No accidents ever. The paint is nearly flawless, owned since nearly new.Interior (Titanium gray and black)is stain/damage free.Original audio system.Exterior paint is deep jewel green (PA)
Non smoker car.Car is not raced or driven in a wreckless manner.
Stock condition, except for recent Magnaflows.Rarely driven.Repainted in 1996 with quality BASF finish by me.The car is turn key.Includes car cover

I live in BC Canada, almost all other Stangs out here are beat and old or modded and beat and old and beat.High milers with fancy paintjobs, hiding the accident the car has suffered. Here in this city/province we also have a problem with bad bodyshops and mechanics.
Most 5.0's out here are a ripp-off or a joke.I cant leave mine unattended anywhere,it will be vandalized or stolen.
In this area the car will go for 10-12000 US$if an educated buyer is interested.
Most rebuilders and Hacks sell for 4-7000.
89-93 is rarely advertised now.

4bangers sell for 2-3500 here
4500 is ridicilous cheap. Here it would get you a completely trashed car in need of everything.
MaybeI should go south and get a few and resell them here...

I know my car is in superb shape. It has been at car shows and many drool over it and comment that it shows and lookslike new.
To take an average weathered 92,the cost of having the body stripped, taken apartand paint refinished to new or better standard by the best people around
will easily cost 3000$.Then add the cost of replacing the cost of the rubber mouldings and trimwith FORD pieces. This would still not get the car to the shapeof the example that I own.The pictureI added is what the car looks like today. It was painted in '96,but people always ask ifI had just recently sprayed it.
I know for a fact, that the cost is similar or higher in the US for parts and refinishing.
That is why its not for sale.It has hit its low value, and may flatline for some time. Then the market is going to swing upward again.Low supply ofusable Ponies will imediately set firm base market prices.I'd say,if you got a good one, hang on to it and maintain it.

i think that is where the misconception happens alot. just because you paint a car doesn't make it worth more. it only brings it back up to what it should be worth... i find alot of people that have a car that is worth 3500 then they say they painted it which cost 3-4k and they then wonder why they can't sel there car for 6500. it is just the way it is. kinda like putting new brakes on a car or rebuilding the motor. you don't get more money for doing maintenance on a car that needed to be done.. now at some point the car gets really old and all of those molding and interior pieces get really hard to find which i think increases the value but for right now no part is even remotely hard to find.

on another note do you know any canadian websites i could list my car for sale. i have no problem shipipng it or anything and it seems like the canadians would buy this car in a heart beat.

that cus the price isnt reasonable and its a notch, only notch hunters like notchs, most dont like them... why pay almost 6k for your car when i can pick up a 99gt for the same price???thats how most people are. but thats way too much unles you have some nice mods plus its an auto are u drunk????it doesnt even blu book past 3k in flawless shape either
