RE: 8.8" rear end
i have heard 500 hp max you could weld the axel tubs to give it more strength , but even 500 is pushing it it is not so much the axles as it is the strength of the houseing seeing how it is a 3 peice i know some guys around here weld the tubes to the center section and have no trouble but i have seen some catostrophic problems with the 8.8 with high hp ,gear banger would be a good source on here for that info

I've seen alot more than 500 thru one.
I've also seen lots of nice pictures of them blowing up at 600rwhp.
You have to be on true slicks and launching REAL hard
at 500+rwhp to break them.
Street tires will loose traction first.

There is a guy we do work for that has a 598 ci big block Ford with a sheet metal manifold andtwo 1050 dominators on it with a fogger. We put 9" housing ends, 35 spline axles, spool, Mark Williams dirversside bearing cap, ARP cap studs,Strange 3.55 pro gear, aluminum cover, and a custom made axle tube braces on is 8.8. He runs apowerglide with a brake and 10.5 W slicks. His 60' times are in the low 1.30s leaving off thetransbrake and running in the low 8s @ 160+mph.There is one other guy that has abig bore 347 with 30+lbs of boost that hasthe exact same rear and runs in the low 5s in the 1/8 with low 1.30 60's. Neither have had any trouble but I have seen a pile of those housing come in bent. That is the biggestproblem is bending thehousings.

c-clip eliminators kept leaking, he had spherical bushings which he didnt like anymore, the setup just ended up being to solid for him, so the irs has bushings and all kinds of goodies
