I know, there are a few cosmetic issues with the car that I really want to fix, as I plan on showing her (as crazy as it sounds)at a few places this summer and I want her to look awesome...

so I have a few restoration bits to do... ash tray door, headlights(yellower than a canary) the front seats, white faced gauges, plus a few speed parts here and there...

if i remeber correctly, you will have to take out the shifter bezel and armrest assembly to get the center console off. that should get it free so you can turn it upside down and pop the door and spring in

yeah, the spring is , well, somewhere and the door and actual metal ashtray part was missing before I bought it....

It's not hard to do. I did it on my old mustang, replaced it with a junkyard one that was half broken. Had to use a screw on one side to hold it. Luckily on my car now it's still the original and perfectly working ashtray lid

Shelty I believe you need to pull the entire console and armrest. A few bolts for the armrest, then a few screws below that. Pop the shifter bezel off and there are a few screws there so the middle section will come free. You'll have to unhook the cig. power and the mirror switch to pull it out entirely.

This makes a good time to run some RCA wires if you dont' have any back there. Good luck with your ashtray.

i dont see how this is such a problem with people, mine is robust and nice. only problem ever is once i had a chick in my car and she gets out, then turns around and crawls in and leans all her weight on it to kiss me and BOOM it pops out of place (not break). and no, not a fat girl at all, short thin dancer
