Default trans/clutch problem?

alright i was in 3rd gear, went to give the car some gas (not even like jamming on it) and it felt like something just let go/gave out, immediately heard a clank/bad vibration.chatter from trans. which got worse when i tried to hit the gas. pulled over and shut it down. i was a minute from my house so i limped it home, sound was worse as rpms rose and worse in order of gears, i tried shifting into 3rd once and sounded pretty bad so just kept it in 2nd under 2k rpms. now when i start it it makes the clanking sound, and it gets worse when i push the clutch down.

does it sound like i grenaded my clutch or my whole trans? i'm leaning towards the whole f**king thing, but i really hope not?

great way to start of xmas[:@]

it may have a bad throw out bearing but you'll have to jack it up and run it and listen for orgin of noise...without driving it myself it's hard to make an educated guess and be right based on the info supplied....internet diagnosis is tough and not often accurate as a key element in the diagnostic process can never be performed which is confirming customer complaint via a test drive which often to my trained ears, eyes and feel during the test drive I can narrow it immediately to a system..so you are the hands , eyes and ears...but based on what you said I'd pull the inspection cover by the clutch fork and shine a light in and examine the throw out bearing

yeah makes sense that it could be the t/o bearing could also be the bearing retainer that the bearing sits on. they are known for breaking and could be making some god aweful noises
