My 2 cents worth is either go with exhaust or gears. you should be able to get gears installed and everything for around 600 (that was my price quote around here) or go headers all the way back for exhaust
Your gear should reflect the cam and waht type of engine you plan on building, saying that you should throw a 4.10 in it or 3.73 without taking the rpm range of the cam you decide to pick into account later on would be pointless.
First off make sure you really dont need the money. Second make sure all maintence has been performed.
Depends what you what. Sound, go with exhaust. Better acceleration, go with gears.
If you do a lot of hwy drivng you may be happy with the stock 3.08 and 25 MPG. Also if you get full exhaust work done all at one time, you may save $ on labor, because the headers/ Mid-Pipe/ Mufflers will only have to be removed/replaced andlined up once.
