kweb. just remember the tune and rpm and are the main killers of the stock block. if you want to keep it safe keep the rpms aroubnd 6-6500 and a safe tune

ORIGINAL: 92GreyGT

All the times I have seen the block split it took the crank with it.The worse that I have personally seen was afriend had a 347 that split the block and when it did the crank broke and threw the timing chain in the road. When that happened the valves met with the pistons and he had nothing but head castings, intake, and a carb. It even broke the main drive in the transmission and broke the distributor housing.
damn what an expensive learning lesson

with stock block your good to 450-500 much over 500 and your pushing it, the tune helps a lot detonation and lean issues cause stress, with a NA 347, you should be fine, you start adding juice or boost thats when you come to problems.

when we lost our block we lost every thing with the motor but the Cam and lifters and the heads. we lost distirbutor timing chaintiming cover water pump Harmonic Balancer new alum. rad. the S/C intercooler.every main cap but one was gone it was sick.the only thing still holding the block in onewas the back of the block and it had started to crack. but it ran 4 years running mid 11s andlow 11s.and had 100s of strip pass's and 100s more on the street.
