Default Muffler Q

My car came with custom straight pipes and iv been thinking about adding some mufflers but i have some questions.

1.I would think that straight pipes offer the most hp gains since there is no restriction, is that correct?
2. I can just buy the mufflers and have a shop weld them on right?
3. If you guys could have any pair of muffler what would they be?

1. No, backpressure is generally required for optimal power
2. Yes, but I'd buy an entire catback for your vehicle
3. I like Bassani, SLP Powerflos, and Magnaflows

As onyx stated, you need back pressure. Mufflers arepersonal preference. I have longtubes with a 3inch x-pipe and flows, no cats. The flowmasters are a common sound on the mustangs but with the 3 inch x and big cam mine sound a little different.

thanks for the feedback guys

but onyx, why do you suggest an entire catback? the pipe is already 2 1/2 so wouldnt it be the same if i just added the mufflers?

It's just what I'd prefer for my car, you can obviously do whatever you like with yours. I'm just one of those people that doesn't like custom installs, I want things to be as neat and perfect as possible.

i feel the same way, but iv already spent about 450 on long tubes and a x pipe so im not realy feeling another 300 for a catback, ill have to think about it.
