Default Lucky??

I just got through changing my oil and found something disturbing, metal! About four months ago when i adjusted the valves, i went to put my valve covers back on and i noticed one of the metal spacers where the bolt hole is was missing. I figured it must have fell off on the ground so i took the other ones out also. When i took my magnetic drain plug out there was a curved piece of metal on it about a 1/4 long. It took me while to figure out what it was. I went and got one of the other spacers and measured both with my digital micrometer. Same thickness. So it did not drop on the ground, it dropped on the head and made it's way past the valve. I've been running it for four months and have great oil pressure that hasnt changed and have 15 pass's on the engine. What do ya'll think is the worst that can happen? How could that thing have slipped through. Anyway's i've got another track meet tom, so if something happens it'll be time for some strokin. I've been flushing it with oil so hopefully i most of it out now.

I don't think I would worry unless you are finding shavings...lots of them.

And if you dropped it in the head, I am sure it didn't go past the valve, just went down the oil drain passage....maybe it got broke up on the head. Good luck anyway

Yea that sounds right. I was just thinking about how it could have made it past the valve and through the cyl walls and pastthe piston. I've run the shiat out of it since this happened so hopefully i'll be ok.

Once again i got lucky lol. On the dyno i couldnt get it to rev past 6400 and it started breaking up bad around 5900 so we thought it was the springs. Well eventually the dig 6 plus went out. I got a new one and set the rev limiter to 7k last time at the track and it revved to that. I measured the OD and install height of springs i have and the measurements are identical to the springs that are supposed to be in there. I thought i had TF springs and that's not the case. There is a significant difference in the od and install height of the tf and comp springs. So in conclusion it was my pos msd and not the springs.

If it went into the pan via the chamber and cylinder, you'd know. You'd have a dead cylinder. The oil return holes on aftermarket alum heads are pretty decent, BUT, if it went through the front drain passages, it may have contacted the cam/dizzy gear. I'd pull the dizzy to check just in case it went through the gears and damaged them.

And yeah, DID you ever get the right springs?

I don't even see how that would be possible....I mean it would have to fall thru the valley, then take a 90* turn to hit the dizzy gear. Can you explain?

The front drain holes on the heads run down through the block and over the cam/dizzy gear on the way back to the pan. That's where most of the gear's oil comes from.

you'll be fine cause the only way it could of gotten down there was through the oil drain back holes as 67mustang 302 states and the pick up screen would of kept the oil pump from sucking it up
