Default CAM

Ok well i'm still rebuilding the 88 engine i bought a few weeks ago, and i just don't have the money (for now) to get new heads, if i buy a trickflow stage 1 cam, and edelbrock rpm intake will the stock heads be ok for a few months, or would i just be wasting my money, i just bought a bottle for my car from a friend for 250, brand new in the box, just had it installed on his car but was never used/fully installed only thing wrong with it is its missing the jets... ($21 or so)

Anyway... i'm getting new gaskets, wiring harness, waterpump, timing cover, timing chain, intake, carb, hoses, plug wires, piston rings, and some other stuff....

Would the cam do any good, or should i just wait till i can afford heads at the same time, either way i need a new intake because im staying carb'd

Thanks for your help..

Sorry about all the questions.. [&:]

I need some more info, are you staying with the stock pistons? If so, I don't think you can go with that big of a lift cam anyways with the factory parts, so that cam you have up there will work and improve performance. No it's not the best choice in the world, but if it's all you can afford, then I'm behind you 100%. A man can only build what he can afford, I won't ever belittle him for that. What else do you need to know. If you do use the stock heads, try and do some light exhaust port work, like knock out the EGR bumps and smooth out the ports a little. I only takes a few minutes and it will help performance also. Remember, every little thing helps.

Heads are your major flow drawback without them you wont see any great gains.. you will see some throttle response and small hp gain. I'm a strong believer on the hci all at once. If your going to use stock heads like above said clean up with quick port job

the tfs cam with the stock e7 valve springs do not mix together if u do spend the few bucks for atleast the valve springs for it or wait till u have a few more bucks and find a set of gt40's/p's junk yards are cheap..

Peak lift has nothing to do with piston to valve clearance.

you can run alot more than that... the problems you will run into are the valve events, and the duration

the bottom line is... when installing a cam, always check PtV
