Default brake lights dont work

so i was driving down the road and someone told me my brake lights were out. so i stopped by the local auto store and put some new bulbs in. that didnt work. so i have two thoughts. theres a burnt fuse or my brake light switch is out. my buddythinks it might be a short, but i am not quite sure that it is because all my other lights work except for my brake lights. am i on the right track. also how hard is it so change a brake light switch?

find out if there is power going to the lights by testing it...it does not sound like fuse... sounds like switch is off or bad...

thanks i'll try both of those. quick question for both. first for 5.0kid about how far up is the plug, and is it hard to get to. second for 87foxgt how hard is it to replace the switch, and how do i tell if it is off. thanksagain for the help. and i'll get back to you when i find out what the issue is.

ORIGINAL: mjr46

check the brake light switch down on the pedal
just unplug it and run a jumper between the pins... lights should pop on
