Default EVERYONE Please Read !!!

Alright, I was just using the torque wrench to put the flywheel onto the crank. I was almsot finished but when I approached the ARP listed 62 Ft LBS they stripped I think at least 2-3 holes are stripped. Is this common with them ? They appear to be way shorter than the stock bolts. Should we try and reuse the old bolts since the go much deeper and would grab onto good threads? I'd hate to have to tear the motor down again.

P.S. Never use ARP Flywheel bolts.

normally the flywheel bolts are longer since the flywheel is thicker, than a flexplate

Yea we had already figured that one out upon looking at it. Basically we told the guy at the counter what we needed, he ordered the bolts, we got flex plate bolts. So yup, bolt was too short and so they stripped. Live and learn I guess.

So heres out new plan, stock bolts are 1". We buy some grade 8- 1 1/4" those will grab a little more thread and make up for the stripped stuff.

Heres a pic of the stripped stuff,

you should be able to repair that on the car and install helicoils....holes don't go all the way through

They do actually, we have the motor from the 87 parts car, I pulled the oil pan off and looked. they go through, and have about 1/4" of room to play with before they touch anything inside.

that's odd.. I've never had a stock roller block crank that had the holes all the way through, if that is the case you'll need loctite on them to seal off oil from entering past threads and creating an external oil leak
