95 take off problem
hey, i recently added a catalizer free h pipe and shorty headers to my stang. and now when i try and burn out or tske off fast my car looses power...when i take off normally it forces a little bit but nothing dramatic. i checked the air intake and the o2 sensor was transfered from 1 exaust to the other in minimal time and dirt or grease didnt get onto it. my check engine light doesnt come on when it happens so i dont think its the comp.... im stumped any advice??
It sounds to me like you just lost some of your low end torque. By removing the cats, you lost backpressure which results in less bottom torque. Also, check to make sure there are no exhaust leaks between the connections.
its a dramatic loss of power i doubt that removing cats will make me lose taht much it, its as if mu computer is taking away gas cuz its running too rich, but again the o2 sensor wasnt exposed for more tahn a minute. its only when i floor it aswell, otherwise it goes as normally
It could be that you have an exhaust leak somewhere. It will make a tick-tick noise. I know when my header gasket blew, some of the power was gone. Also, are both O2's plugged in and secured tightly into the the exhaust?
is your car a automatic or five speed?
it isnt likely your computer just didnt up and crapped on you, unplug the o2`s and plug them back in see if that helps sometimes they can be a pain, do you have an aftermarket regulator? it shouldn`t go rich cause you took off the converters the o2`s were in front of the converter anyway! on your factory pipe you had and emmisions pipe on your new pipe did you plug it off? if you loose too much back pressure it will have that affect on your car, loosing the cats and a big leak = problem!

i DID have an exaust leask but i welded it shut.. i did also have the ticking noise but that stopped as soon as i finished the welds. as for the o2 sensors there placed properly. im thinking it could be my mass airflow sensor..
Did this problem occur right after the exhaust was installed or was it slightly acting up before the install. If so, I would deffinetly give your MAF a nice cleaning with some electrical contact cleaner. MAF's become dirty easy as you probably know.
the problem IF it started before the swap was not noticed , its rare that i floor it. although i changed it after my cat broke, so i wasnt booting it for a while. as well as i went to the country and travelled on a dirt road so ill clean the MAF and see if it works... thanks ill get ack about it tomorrow
