need engine recipe
i just pulled my engine and trans and my block is good and my bottom end is good.i was going to buy a crate engine but i'd rather save the money.my problem is i have no idea how to piece together the top end.so my question is if you had a stock 93 short block what would you buy? from what i heard the best cost effictive thing is patriot heads with the (xor e? 303 ford cam) 1.7 rockers,30 lb inj,70 mm tb,cobra intake, shorty headers to offroad x pipe. this is a dd so no track, just screwin around and leaving rubber behind. i have 3.55's and the stock aod is being done. any suggestions would be great and keeping cost down would really be great.the car's cost is adding up a little to fast.
patriot heads have been shady in the past from what i've read. supposedy they are ok now. If you do go with them I would deffinetly get new hardware for them. I believe you can get there heads bare and have a local machine shop CNC them the way u like. probably be better than there off shore guys doing it. I dont know how much that costs but in the end you can always get a pair of eddy's or AFR's and you'll be ok too. its all up to you what u got to spend. just remember its WAY cheaper to do it right FIRST than have to upgrade / fix to somthing later.
Go to the junk yard and pick up some GT-40p's. Get them re-freshened with good valve springs, etc. and have them ported and polished. Get a TrickFlow Stg-1 cam and run the rest of the parts you listed. Since you are running an auto, make sure you get a transcooler. It should be the first part you buy. You should also pick up a good stall converter to compliment the auto. A 2700 stall would be perfect for your combo, especially with the Trick Flow cam.
thanx for the info guys.i will not go with the patriot heads.i'm looking for something out of the box with no problems as i'm in northern canada so it's all having to be shipped back in forth to major cities and there is no machine shop up here.allso can anyone think of a good engine building and how to set up a motor manual?i'm trying to do this on my own as much as i can.
