I ordered a set and returned them. They stick out too far and don't look good.

I would refinish your moldings instead....it is easy to do and only cost a afternoon and about 10 bucks

Refinish them with what, exactly? I saw a friend who had them painted black and it looked terrible. What would I use (if anything) to bring back the color out of it? I was guessing I would need to sand the rough spots off, then use whatever base to bring out the gloss again?

It would be best to remove the windows from the car, but you can do it on the car too. Get some high build primmer, spray a few coats, then sand, spray a few coats, then sand...keep doing this untill it is all smooth then paint with what ever paint to perfer...I used bumper trim paint on mine. You could also use a flexable filler, sand them smooth and paint them.

have those on my car, they look WAY better than the crappy molding underneath them, but they don't look exactly like stock..but i'd buy them tommorow all over again, thats how much it improves the look, tip: when you get them, spray them with rattle can black "trim paint" from autozone, don't just stick them on there unpainted black plastic, i learned this the hard way
