Default charging problems please help

just like the title says i really need help i have an 87 gt ttop hci, stock internals, all the other goodies, ok at idle my car charges very well always to notches above half way mark being i bought a pa alternator no more than a year ago...the car really isnt driven excepts for weekends and the thursday irwindale track day over here in pasadena ca. well the car charges fine at idle but when i rev the motor the idle drops all the way to the red mark and has even turned off...i have tested the alternator at the local auto zone and everything seemed fine but it doesnt make sense...i have checked all the grounding and even installed thicker 4g wire being that i had it spliced to the stock wiring, but also always worked fine...can any one help??? any info will do...thanks

i assume that the 4 gauge wire is to feed current back to the battery. sounds more like the problem is in the plug and wiring that is used to excite the alt. With out proper voltage and ground in the plug the alt is a boat anchor.
