Default Having a problem

I'm having a problem with my 1985 gt. It idles perfectly, but when I start driving it, its kinda hard to explain, itll hesitate, then, go, then hesitate, then go, almost like its hiccuping. When I get on it, it drives fine, and it idles fine. Its bugging the **** outta me, whats it doin and how do I fix it?

is it cfi/efi or is it a carbed 85????? .....if it is carbuerated, check the fuel filter and make sure it's not plugged up and make sure you don't have any vaccum leaks either that'll cause a lean hesitation

well, I checked everything out, changed fuel filter, checked for vacuum leak, and nothing changed. I ended up bringing it in, and they said that the owner before me had installed an aftermarket carb, but something is wrong with the carb so under load it ends up dumping more gas in causing it to surge. They said I have to get a whole new carb for it. I wanted to ask before I went ahead and buy a new carb, does that sound legit, or are they just trying to get money off me?

depends on what kind of carb is on it now, sounds like you got a shop that has no clue about theroy and operation of carbs nor how to tune one, so they just tell you to get a new one = lame!!!....but if you had a pic of it , that my help determine model, also part number is usually on the choke horn if it's a holley oh and if it's dumping to much gas in under load tell the shop to check the power valve if it's a holley, would of thought they'd clue in on that
